Drug Intervention
Even if you aren’t a drug user, drugs can make life difficult—especially if someone you care about is struggling with addiction. If you are a friend, family member or business associate of an addict, you can play a very important role in helping them conquer addiction. How?
There are times when a person can’t—or won’t—admit they are addicted. This can be especially true in the case of driven, Type A executives. They are unwilling to acknowledge the problem or get help. When this happens, it may be necessary to present the drug abuser with a more compelling level of motivation: intervention.
How does it work? One of our trained professionals will meet with the significant people in the addict’s circle (immediate and extended family members, friends, neighbors, co-workers, employer, priest or other religious advisor) to plan a time when they will meet as a group with the drug user.
Each participant simply tells how they have been impacted by the executive’s drug abuse, and draws a “line in the sand,” explaining that this behavior will no longer be tolerated. One by one, they share their experiences and feelings in a constructive manner.
The objective is to convince the addict to enter treatment. This is why the skills of a professional are so important. Drug abusers are naturally manipulative, and many excuses for putting off such a “drastic” step may be put forward. Trained interventionists expect this, and are able to reach through the denial and encourage the addict to take the right action.
Prior to the intervention session, arrangements will already be in place to move the executive into our center immediately, where treatment can begin.
Our team can make arrangements to hold an intervention anywhere in the U.S. Call one of our counselors for more information, or to schedule an intervention session.
